Beginning an Advent series (1 week early) on an overview of the Bible’s big story. Using The Bible Overview. Advent is a great time to view the big picture of the Bible because it’s a time when we observe how the coming of Christ fulfils so much of the Old Testament. The Bible’s story in one sentence is:
God appoints Jesus Christ as the saving ruler of God’s kingdom.
The Bible’s narrative runs from Creation to New Creation, pivoting on Christ.
The Bible tells us that God appointed Jesus Christ as the saving ruler of his kingdom. In the Old Testament we see the foundations of this message, and learn who God is, what he does, and how he works. We learn that God commits himself to fallen humans, based on his promises. In the New Testament we see those promises of God fulfilled in Jesus Christ. By his life, death and resurrection, Jesus began God’s kingdom. And he will return to establish it forever.
